Primary Matters

Welcome Back

It is a pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all families as we begin the second half of the school year. The Primary Years at Iona hold a unique energy and spirit, and it is a privilege to once again be part of a community so deeply committed to the growth and formation of our youngest Ionians. I look forward to working in close partnership with families over the coming months.

At our first opportunity on Tuesday, I encouraged our students to build on the strong foundations set in Semester One.

Our Year 5 students are now fully immersed in Iona life. They are familiar with routines, respectful of our culture, and bringing great energy each day. This term, they are challenged to take the next step as future leaders of our Primary in 2026.

Our Year 6 students continue to lead with maturity and purpose. As they prepare for their transition into Secondary, this semester offers valuable opportunities to grow in confidence and independence. I look forward to supporting them through this important time.

Thank you for your continued support and the trust you place in our team. I am excited for all we will achieve together this semester.

Mr Brayden Teece
Acting Dean of Primary Years

Year 6 Camp Reminders

Next week our Year 6 students will be heading up to Glendalough on the Sunshine Coast, to participate in their postponed Term 1 camp. The camp is a chance for students to step out of their comfort zone, grow more independent, develop leadership skills, reflect on their spirituality and strengthen bonds with classmates before heading into high school.

Some of the activities on camp include, the flying fox, kayaking, survival skills, teamwork challenges and beach activities. Whilst it will no doubt be a little cooler than usual, the staff and students are getting excited and can't wait until that first bus leaves at 8am Monday.

  • Camp 1 – 6B, 6M, 6W - Monday 21 July to Wednesday 23 July
  • Camp 2 – 6E 6R 6S - Wednesday 23 July to Friday 25 July

On the day of departure, please make sure your son arrives at the Primary handball courts no later than 7.35am as the buses will depart at 8am sharp.
