Music Camp 2025
Music Camp 2025 was extremely successful, with around 80 students from three of our top-tier ensembles gathering at the QCCC campsite in the western suburb of Brookfield for two-and-a-half days of rehearsals and team building.
We managed to fit in the equivalent of around six weeks of rehearsals, fully preparing the ensembles for their Term 1 performances. A big thank you to all our staff who gave up time with their own families to work with the students over that time.
SHEP Awards
Congratulations to Ryan Codd, Nathaniel Twigg and Patrick Vincent who recently participated in the State Honours Ensemble Program at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music.
SHEP gives students the opportunity to work with some of Australia’s best conductors and clinicians and connects them with other like-minded musicians their own age from across Brisbane.
It is fantastic that many of our students perform at the level required to participate across the various age categories.
Cancellation of Enrolment
Parents are reminded that if you are cancelling your son’s enrolment in the music program then this must be done before the term starts.
The College requires three weeks’ notice before the commencement of the term. Cancellations that occur after a term is underway will incur the full cost of one term’s fees.
For more information on this please see the Instrumental Music Handbook.
Caritas – Launch of Project Compassion - Tuesday 4 March
Iona College has again been invited to provide the music for the Brisbane launch of Project Compassion in St Stephen’s Cathedral.
Due to the success of last year’s collaboration, we are again inviting some students from San Sisto College. Information regarding this event has been sent to parents via Compass.
New Year 7s
Year 7 Parents: If your son is new to the College and you are wanting them to begin learning an instrument or voice training, please contact the music office so we can secure your place.
Thanks to all Year 7 parents who have already been in touch.
There are some parents who came to our ‘meet the music teachers’ event last year who expressed interest in learning an instrument.
If you are still interested and have not heard from us, please send us an email and let us know! ionamusic@iona.qld.edu.au
Space Available – Years 6-12
We have vacancies available on most instruments, although many are filling up quickly with new enrolments. If your son is in Years 6-12 and you would like him to learn an instrument or voice training, please get in touch with us.
LEX Concert - Thursday 27 February
Iona College, St Laurence’s College and Padua College will be collaborating for a workshop day and concert here at Iona on 27 February.
The three schools share a connection that has been formalised as the LEX (Learning Exchange) Partnership.
Each College’s most-senior Wind Ensembles will come together to perform their own repertoire, before combining for a massive 150-member ensemble.
It will be a special and unique concert and one you shouldn’t miss.
Padua will also be bringing students from Mt Alvernia College, as they have a partnership in the Franciscan Colleges Instrumental Program and participate in ensembles together.
