Public Transport Updates

A couple of important announcements for Iona families who use public transport for their sons to get to and from school.

Buses
From this week a new bus route will be servicing Iona College in the afternoons - No.5179 which runs all the way through to the Sleeman Sports Centre at Chandler.

The 5179 will depart Iona at 3.25pm, stopping at Moreton Bay College and Moreton Bay Boys College, then stop at Mayfair Village, three stops on Arenga St at Wakerley, three stops on Calladium St, Stanbrough Rd, Eastside Village at Gumdale, and then three stops along Tilley Rd before terminating at the Sleeman Centre at approximately 4.09pm.

Queensland Rail
Queensland Rail has advised they will undertake permanent power connection and lift commissioning activities over a weekend for the Lindum station accessibility upgrade.

During the weekend, the station will remain open but there will be no station power, lifts, toilets or ticketing facilities available.

Rail customers should touch on/off at the first available opportunity and contact Translink on 13 12 30 if you notice any unusual charges.

Drop-off and pick-up procedures

Please use the designated drop-off and pick-up zone between Davine and McCarthy ovals, accessed via Bulgin Ave.  For safety reasons, children are only to enter and exit the vehicle from the left, and only when you are in the drop-off zone marked in yellow on the road.  Please do not allow students to enter or exit the vehicle at the top of the hill.

Other options available for drop-off / pick-up:

We understand that the designated drop-off and pick-up zone does get busy at peak times. Delaying your pick-up time until 3.25pm, after the peak-time traffic has cleared, is an alternative that will see reduced congestion at the pick-up zone.

Other options that are available for you to safely drop off or pick up your son are:

  • Drop off / pick your child up on the school side only of Sandy Camp Road and North Road, north of the main entrance (alongside the ovals)
  • If other drop-off / pick-up areas are congested, the grassed overflow area beside Main Drive on North Road will be made available to increase capacity at peak times

Please do not use the following areas for pick up or drop off:

  • The opposite side of North Road from the College – with the new bus zone and bus stop, this area is now no stopping
  • There is to be no access to the main entrance of the College on North Road for pick up and drop off purposes, unless under exceptional circumstances. Pick up and drop off of students in any of the following areas presents a significant safety risk to students:
    • under IPAC
    • the grassed area beside the North Road driveway
    • outside the main office
    • Chapel car park
    • any designated staff car parks

Student access to the College

Please note that students are only able to enter and exit the College via the designated pathways as outlined on the map below.
